CSsR Novena in Erdington Abbey...

The Parish of Erdington Abbey served by the Redemptorists are celebrating a very special occasion in June this year. As well as the Year of Mercy, the Parish and Deanery are commemorating 150 Years of caring for the image of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. This is a familiar Icon of Our Lady, cherished by many Catholics. We believe Our Mother Mary, does hear our prayers and petitions precisely because she is one like us. Pope Pius IX asked the Redemptorist Order to make Our Lady of Perpetual help known around the world, and now 150 years on, the image is loved by many people, with weekly novenas taking place in all corners of the globe.
The Abbey parish recently joined with a national pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in St. Alphonsus church in Rome. A specially commissioned Icon has been travelling around Ireland to many cathedrals, churches, nursing homes and prisons. Here in Birmingham Archdiocese we are also celebrating Our Mother of Mercy. There will be nine days of prayer and celebration, a Solemn Novena in Erdington Abbey from Sunday 19th June up until the Feast on Monday 27th June. Later in the year in October, the Redemptorists will lead a few days of reflection before the Icon of Our Lady with celebrations and services based in St. Anne’s and English Martyrs. See below for the schedule of the Erdington Novena. Other events in the Archdiocese are also noted.
The Solemn Novenas are very special events in the life of a parish. Many who attend are commited and faithful Catholics. There will be others who, in their faith life, come only to church for special moments. All will be seeking a word of hope and mercy. This is what they will recieve during these blessed nine days of prayer and celebration.
