St Gerard Majella 2026 - 300th Anniversary of his birth...

"Later this month our diocese will be hosting the relics of St Gerard Majella, patron of expectant mothers and those longing for children, as part of the celebrations of his 300th anniversary. It is a rare opportunity to draw close to the life, witness, and spiritual legacy of one of the most loved saints in the Catholic Church, whose holiness was rooted in humility, compassion, and trust in God.

Brentwood is the first diocese in the Redemptorist tour, which will encompass all of England and Wales.

The relics will be hosted at four locations:

•  Holy Trinity, Basildon on Monday 19 January;
•  St James the Less and St Helen, Colchester on Wednesday 21 January;
• Our Lady of the Rosary and St Patrick, Walthamstow on Thursday 22 January;
• St Antony of Padua, Forest Gate on Friday 23 January.

The churches will be open for personal prayer in the presence of the relics from 6pm before  Mass at 7pm and there will be opportunities for blessings and Confession. Individuals and families are warmly invited to bring their intentions to this popular saint.

CSsR Province Meeting 2026...

During the week of Monday the 5th til Friday the 9th of January 2026 confreres travelled from each of our communities in the UK to gather in Perth Scotland at our Monastery on Kinnoull hill to meet, talk, pray and recreate together as confreres.

The Ordinary Provincial Council facilitated the three full days we had together, while the Apostolic Life Secretariat (ALS) looked after the Liturgical ceremonies and ensured that everyone had whatever necessary to make sure the meeting was a success.

The ALS is Fr Casper S Mukabva CSsR, Br David Nyamuronda CSsR and Fr Peter Morris CSsR - to them the Province sends much gratitude!

Province CSsR Meeting 5th - 9th January 2026...

St Mary's CSsR Monastery, Kinnoull, Perth, Scotland

Your prayers are asked for our meeting in our monastery in Scotland which will begin on the evening of the 5th and will end after Mass, then breakfast on the 9th January. This is our annual get together of all the confreres from around the Province.

We are particulary pleased to have with us the Regional Superior of Zimbabwe, Rev'd Fr Kenneth Macharaga CSsR. There will be more news and photos following...

Upcoming Triduum in honour of St John Neumann CSsR...

Greetings dear brothers and sisters, confreres, Redemptorist Lay partners on mission, associates, and collaborators,

We welcome to the triduum in honour of St John Neumann a Redemptorist Missionary Bishop and whose feast we celebrate each year on the 5^th January.

This year Fr. Ivel Mendanha, CSsR, the General Consultor, reflects during this triduum on different aspects of the life and Spirituality of St John Neumann in the context of the year dedicated to Mission in the Redemptorist family and also keeping in mind that in the month of March this year we will be beginning the year dedicated to leadership in the Congregation.

Therefore we will begin with a first reflection on

St John Neumann a Missionary Bishop,

then on the second day we will reflect on

St John Neumann a leader after the example of Jesus our Servant leader

and on the third day we will reflect on the cross of suffering in the life of

St John Neumann keeping in mind that the cross is part of the life of a Missionary and of a leader today.

Finally, on the feast day we will reflect on the inspiration St John Neumann offers all of us in the Redemptorist Family and to all Christians in our following of Jesus today.

When Saint Alphonsus ‘Sings’ at the Vatican...

...A Redemptorist Christmas at St. Peter’s square

 

Saint Peter’s Square has become a place of deep Redemptorist memory and joy on Monday evening 15th December 2025. In the Vatican’s Nativity scene for Christmas, Saint Alphonsus Maria de’ Liguori appears at the very heart of the crib, seated at a harpsichord and appears to be singing the song that have shaped generations of faith: Tu scendi dalle stelle. For the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer and especially for the people of Pagani and the Diocese of Nocera Inferiore–Sarno, this is more than an artistic tribute. It is a moment of recognition of a saint whose message continues to speak powerfully to the Church and the world.

A gift from the Diocese to the universal Church

The Nativity scene installed in St Peter’s Square comes from the Diocese of Nocera Inferiore–Sarno, where Saint Alphonsus spent his final years and where his mortal remains rest today. The crib brings together faith, history and local culture, with architectural elements inspired by the Paleochristian Baptistery of Nocera Superiore, traditional courtyard houses and the familiar stone and colours of Campania. Speaking about the meaning of this Nativity, Bishop Giuseppe Giudice, Bishop of Nocera Inferiore–Sarno, stressed that the message of Saint Alphonsus echoes strongly from this crib. He described Saint Alphonsus as one of the greatest gifts that the diocese could offer to the whole Catholic world — a saint whose pastoral heart, theological clarity and closeness to ordinary people remain deeply relevant today. Placed among children, shepherds and village life, Saint Alphonsus is shown not as a distant figure, but as a pastor close to prayer, music and daily human experience. A pendulum clock beside him recalls his simple habit of stopping every hour to say a Hail Mary, a small but telling sign of a life rooted in constant trust in God.

A song that still touches hearts

At the centre of the scene, we see Saint Alphonsus ‘sings’ Tu scendi dalle stelle, the Christmas carol he composed in 1754 so that even the poorest could understand and celebrate the mystery of the Incarnation. Written first in local dialect and later translated into Italian, the hymn expresses the wonder of a God who chooses poverty, humility and closeness.

On Monday at 17.00 (Vatican time), as thousands of pilgrims and visitors gathered in St Peter’s Square, the choir sang Tu scendi dalle stelle, filling the Vatican with a warm and unmistakable Christmas atmosphere. The familiar melody drew people together, turning the square into a place of shared memory and joy.
