CSsR Missions Ongoing Now...

On Thurday, March 6th, a group of Redemptorist Missioners gathered and prayed

for the Missions that are undergoing at the moment.

The Missioners were Commissioned and each given a Mission Cross.

The Missions are being held this week in the Cathedrals of both

Harare and Bulawayo Archdioceses - please pray for them.

The Mission Crosses were gifted to the Region of Zimbabwe by our Nuns

in the Monastery of St Alphonsus, Dublin.

Vatican Stamp to celebrate 75th Anniversary of the Alphonsianum...

Vatican Post and Philately of the Governorate of Vatican City issued new stamps, postcards and aerograms to celebrate some important anniversaries and important events among which includes the 75th anniversary of the foundation of the Pontifical Alphonsian Academy.

Founded by the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer on February 9, 1949,

the Alphonsian Academy, Pontifical Higher Institute of Moral Theology,

was incorporated into the Faculty of Theology of the Pontifical Lateran University on August 2, 1960 as a center of excellence for specialization in moral theological disciplines.

In the spirit of Saint Alphonsus Maria de Liguori, a renovator of moral knowledge in his century, and in harmony with the Magisterium of the Church, the Academy takes special care to perfect moral theology, paying particular attention to the total knowledge of the human being in his personal and Christian dimension. It is therefore the realization of the great dream of the Redemptorist Congregation, of a ministry that arises from the depths of its missionary spirit, according to the charism and example of the founder Saint Alphonsus, patron of moralists and confessors, proclaimed Doctor of the Church in 1871.

Just as St. Alphonsus wrote his famous Theologia Moralis to prepare and help priests and other ministers in the guidance of their faithful, for the growth and sanctification of Christian life, in the same way the Alphonsian Academy prepares and helps students, religious and lay, in the guidance of their Christian community. With a decree of January 16, 2023, the Holy Father Francis then granted the Alphonsian Academy the prestigious title of “Pontifical.”

The Zimbabwe CSsR Region of Zimbabwe 2025

with Fr Provincial, the Fr Vicar Provincial and Br Provincial Secretary,

with Fr Regional Superior and his Councils,

the Final Professed and Ordained members of the Region,

our two newly ordained Priests,

all our simply professed confreres,

those in formation, but not yet in vows,

and our dear seminarians from Chinhoyi.

All of us make up the Region of Zimbabwe

and at the same time there are 13 confreres missing

due to other important ministries, studies or living abroad for the mission.

Religious sisters are “the foot soldiers of Christ” in Zimbabwe, says Bishop Raymond CSsR

During a visit to the international headquarters of Aid to the Church in Need (ACN), Bishop of Masvingo Raymond Tapiwa Mupandasekwa, CSsR. spoke of women religious as “foot soldiers of Christ”. The Bishop Raymond said the Church has been slow to recognize the contribution of sisters to the work of the Church, but fortunately in Zimbabwe this is beginning to change.

The Bishop Raymond says that the Church in his country, and in general, owes a debt of gratitude to the religious sisters who do pastoral work on the ground, sometimes in very difficult conditions.

 “We should thank the female congregations; they have had to carry a lot of burdens in order to serve the Church in Africa. They are the ones on the ground, who serve the poor, the widow and the orphan, but they have very little recognition,” he said. “They do the catechesis of children, young people and adults, but when people talk about the Church, they say: ‘Father is doing a good job here, he is very good at organising.’ Father might be good at organising, but who implements all these things? Who makes it work? It is the women in the congregations. With very little gratitude. Historically we have had a challenge in the manner in which we have been expressing our gratitude.”

Ukraine, Fr Heleta CSsR: “There I perceived the prayer of the Church”...

After three years of war, Scala News offers the testimony of a confrere on what the Holy Father defined yesterday as “a painful and shameful anniversary for all humanity!”

Father Bohdan Heleta, CSsR., tells Vatican media about his experience of faith during his imprisonment in prison: “It was very difficult, but the motivation that allowed me to endure the pain was to offer it to save my enemies.”

“What helped me to endure? It’s simple: God.” With these words our confrere sums up his experience of Russian captivity.Father Heleta, together with another Redemptorist, Father Ivan Levytskyi, was arrested in November 2022 in the town of Berdyansk in southern Ukraine. At that time, the town had been under Russian occupation for nine months. For a long time after their arrest, there was no information about their fate. Then,on June 28, 2024, they were both released.

A Test of Faith
The online meeting with Father Bohdan with the participation of the Apostolic Nuncio to Ukraine, Archbishop Visvaldas Kulbokas, was organized in the context of the third anniversary of the large-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russia on Thursday, February 20, 2025. Addressing the participants of the meeting, the priest focused on the spiritual aspects of the difficult experience of more than a year and a half in prison. The Redemptorist priest considers everything that happened to him as a test of faith, one that every Christian experiences throughout his life. “The ongoing war in Ukraine, what is happening to our people, is truly terrible,” he said, “but we know from the Scriptures, and we know that Christ said that these trials must come.”
