4th August 1914...

At the going down of the sun

and in the morning

we will remember them.

cssr war 1914

One of the many letters sent to the unknown soldier at Paddington Station London.

"I remember the day England entered the war. I remember the look on your face, so innocent yet troubled by news. As I held your hand you looked at me desperately and I felt your undeniable pain. Looking back on those years, those memories written on crumpled paper, and smudged with tears of pain and suffering, I contemplate on how you must have felt during those endless nightmares. Such injustice, such cruelty inflicted on the young. So much bloodshed, now collected in a field of blood-red poppies. I honour your courage, and that's why I keep a poppy on my writing desk,

so that every time I look at it I remember you, and the hardships you had gone through.

I will say only this, you will never be forgotten my dear friend,

your life is written in the pages of the book,

for if no one will know your name,

I will cherish and carve it on the cold stone slab of my heart."
