Fr Timothy Buckley CSsR Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice...

"Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice ("For Church and Pope" in Latin)

is a decoration of the Holy See.

It is currently conferred for distinguished service

to the Catholic Church by lay people and clergy."

Our Fr Timothy Buckley CSsR was recently decorated with this decoration by the Holy Father Francis. Great celebrations were had in the parish and Bishop Thomas Neylon (Auxiliary Bishop of Liverpool) presented the Award to Fr Tim.

Bishop Ralph Heskett CSsR was also in attendance, alongside the Provincial Superior, many confreres and clergy from the Archdiocese of Liverpool.

The parishioners turned out in great numbers for the Mass followed by a reception where the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Quartet graced us with their wonderful musical presence. A great evening was had by all.

Bishop Raymond Mupa CSsR visits Clapham...

Bishop Raymond Mupa CSsR, one of the Bishops of Zimbabwe (Chinhoyi) recently visited the confreres in Clapham and made a special visit to the Little Sisters of the Poor to visit Fr George Webster CSsR. For 40 years Fr George CSsR worked and ministered in Zimbabwe, and Bishop Raymond CSsR was inspired by him as a young boy. Fr Casper Mukabva CSsR, the Rector of Clapham accompanied our bishop on the visit.

Meeting of Provincial Councils of the North-West European Provinces...

June 3, 2022

Provincial Leaders with members of the Ordinary and Extraordinary Provincial Councils of the North-West European Provinces gathered from 1-3 June 2022 in Rome. Fr. Alberto Eseverri, C.Ss.R., Vicar General, and Fr. Johannes Römelt, C.Ss.R., Coordinator of the Redemptorist Conference of Europe, also participated.

The meeting marked the next step on the path to the Federation of the four Redemptorist Units in the ongoing restructuring process for the sake of the mission. Fr. David McCallum S.J., director the Discerning Leadership Program, was invited to assist the participants in their discussion and the work on envisioning a new shape of cooperation in the near future.

Statement of the participants at the meeting of Provincial Leaders with members of the Ordinary and Extraordinary Provincial Councils of the North-West European Provinces from 1-3 June 2022 in Rome on the state of the Federation negotiations

We walked a path together as a “retreat” and at the same time working meeting under the professional guidance of two external facilitators.

It was characterized by

– recalling the journey that we have taken so far

– listening to each other,

– reflecting,

– praying and listening to God’s call in silence and fellowship, as well as

– looking into the future and thus sensing what the Holy Spirit is calling us to as Redemptorists.

All this happened in a trusting and confraternal atmosphere that helped us to move forward on our common journey.

We have become more aware of our responsibility for the future presence of the Redemptorist Family in the territory of the four Provinces in North-West Europe.

We have assured each other that we will enter into a formal federation by 2025, leading us to the goal of becoming one Province.

We are united by our common vision of bringing Christ, the Redeemer, to the people of our day.

We feel as Redemptorists to be proud to be messengers of God’s mercy in this so wounded and secular world.

We have experienced here that we are already on a common path in the federation, without having already completed the formal federation structure. It’s our intention as leadership to invite everyone to take part on this journey.

ERDINGTON AND PARISH MISSIONS

FathersKieranRoyston Ever since St. Alphonsus Liguori founded the Redemptorists in 1732, outreach to the poor and abandoned have been at the heart of our ministry. Parish Missions have been one of the ways we have done this. The Redemptorists in Erdington Abbey have been leading Missions and Retreats since almost day one of coming to Birmingham in 1922. There has been a mission team here in the Abbey for many years, sometimes there has been more emphasis on this part of our ministry, sometimes less.

As you may know for a period in our Erdington history there was a school and Juvenate here for the training of Redemptorists, at that time there were less Parish Missioners living in Erdington. Then there was a time of greater emphasis on this work for many years until we moved out of the main Abbey building. In the years immediately after moving to the smaller house the focus was almost entirely on the parish, although in the last six years the Mission apostolate is again an integral part of who we are at the Abbey. These days Frs Kieran Brady and Royston Price CSsR are devoted to the Mission scene.
