Dunkeld has a new Bishop...
The Community of Redemptorists in Kinnoull Monastery, Perth are delighted that its Diocese, Dunkeld, has now got a new bishop.
Congratultion Bishop Elect Martin Chambers.
You have our warm good wishes and our prayers. We look forward to welcoming you to the monastery.
He said “As I set out on this new Mission as Bishop of Dunkeld, I pledge to sit in prayer as a Disciple at the feet of Jesus, listening to his voice calling me forward in faith. Together, with Christ’s strength and inspiration, we will all be able to continue to build the Kingdom in the Diocese of Dunkeld.”
“I am also conscious that many years ago, I was accepted into seminary by Bishop Joseph McGee. He was the Bishop of Galloway who had started off as a priest of Dunkeld Diocese. In a strange way, I am returning a compliment in faith for, having started as a priest of Galloway, I am now becoming Bishop of Dunkeld.”

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Martin Chambers, of the clergy of the diocese of Galloway, until now parish priest of Saint Matthew’s and Our Lady of Mount Carmel, as bishop of the diocese of Dunkeld, Scotland.
Curriculum vitae
Msgr. Martin Chambers was born on 8 June 1964 in Glasgow. He was awarded a bachelor’s degree in theology from the Universidad de Salamanca.
He was ordained a priest on 25 August 1989.
He has held the following offices: parish priest of Saint John’s, Stevenston (1989-1993); parish priest of Saint Thomas the Apostle, Muirkirk (1993-1996); deputy diocesan director for vocations (1993-1995); diocesan consultant for Catholic Education (1993-2000); parish priest of Saint Bride, West Kilbride (1996-1997); parish priest of Saint John’s, Stevenston (1997-2004); missionary of the Society of Saint James the Apostle in Guayaquil, Ecuador (2004-2009); since 2009, parish priest of Saint Matthew, Kilmarnock; parish administrator of Saint Paul, Hurlford (2013-2015); parish administrator of Saint Sophia, Galston (2013-2015); since 2015, parish priest of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Kilmarnock; since 2018, diocesan director for vocations and diocesan director for the formation of permanent deacons.

HOMILY AT BISHOP ETON DIAMOND JUBILEE MASS

THIS celebration is not just about priesthood, but about Redemptorist Priesthood. And the gospel just read says clearly what that is. Quoting Isiah, Jesus says, "The Spirit of the Lord has been given to me, for He has anointed me. He has sent me to bring the Good News to the poor." All of us here, filled or fuelled, by God's Holy Spirit are surely called to be heralds of the Gspel, but we Redemptorists feel so privileged and thankful to have been led by the Lord to follow Him and dedicate our lives more specifically to the task of bringing his Good News to the poor. This is what we want to celebrate.

JUBILEE MASS AT BISHOP ETON
On Thursday 11th January 2023, Bishop Eton held a Jubilee Mass celebrating the Diamond Jubilees of Fr Jim McManus C.Ss.R and Fr Jim Casey C.Ss.R. They were joined by many of their confrères.
Fr Jim McManus was the main celebrant ably assisted by Fr Jim Casey who gave the homily.
Christmas by Candlelight at Bishop Eton
CHRISTMAS BY CANDLELIGHT AT BISHOP ETON
On Friday the 22nd December 2023, parishoners and the Redemptorist Community braved the cold for Christmas by Candlelight in Aid of The Whitechapel Centre who support the homeless in Liverpool.
The event in the monastery grounds had live music, carols, refreshments and a raffle.

On behalf of the many Redemptorists who work in situations of political tension or among the most abandoned, we thank the words of Archbishop Visvaldas Kulbokas, Apostolic Nuncio to Ukraine, who celebrated Christmas Mass in Kharkiv, in a war zone, at 50 kilometers from the border with Russia.
In an interview with Vatican News, he said that the air alerts “sounded precisely in the highest moments of the celebration, when we were in front of Jesus.”
The Nuncio told Vatican media that “even during the Christmas period, the war has not disappeared, the war continues.”
The archbishop said he constantly prays for the children, but also for the prisoners because
“you don’t know how many I know personally, how many families who have their loved ones somewhere in Russia, we don’t know where, but they are not even soldiers: they are doctors, they are civilians, or we have our two Redemptorist Catholic priests Father Ivan Levytskyi and Father Bohdan Heleta…I begin the prayer with them in my mind.”

Bl Peter Donders CSsR 14th January...
We, the Redemptorist family celebrate the feast of Blessed Peter Donders to recall the wonderful works done for a particular section of people who were despised by society and their loved ones. Blessed Peter inspires us to care for the poor, destitute and marginalized of society.
Peter Donders was born in Tilburg, Holland, on 27 October 1809. He was a Dutch Redemptorist. At the age of 22, he entered St. Michael-Gestel Seminary. Ordained a priest on June 5, 1841, Donders set out for Paramaribo, Surinam, a Dutch colony. In 1856, he volunteered to minister to people with leprosy to serve in various missions in the Dutch colony of Surinam. He started working in the capital Paramaribo but is predominantly known for his work in and around the leper colony of Batavia, where he remained for the next 28 years. In 1866, he joined the Redemptorists, professing his vows on June 24, 1867.
Peter Donders died among his people with leprosy on January 14, 1887, and was beatified as an ‘Apostle of the Lepers’ by Saint (Pope) John Paul II on May 23, 1982. The remains of Peter Donders are in Paramaribo.

Healing God, you showed your wonderful mercy toward lepers through Blessed Peter Donders, your priest. By his example and prayers, may we serve you through our loving care for those in greatest need. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen.
