Biography

Antonio Maria Losito was born in Canosa (BA) on December 16, 1838. He was the youngest of the five children of Antonio and Maria Celeste Ricco. When he came to see the light of day he was already orphaned by his father, who had died a few months earlier in an accident at work.

He was baptized on the same day he was born. One year later, on October 18th, he received the Sacrament of Confirmation.

After the death of his mother, at the age of ten, he and his siblings were entrusted to the care of his maternal grandmother, going to live in Margherita di Savoia (BT). After her death he returned to Canosa, living at the house of his sister Angela, where he continued his studies at the Franciscan monastery.

When he was 17 years old, having been influenced by the Redemptorists Vittorio and Nunzio Loiodice, Antonio Maria entered the Redemptorist novitiate at Ciorani (SA), on November 24, 1855.

Most Rev'd Fr. Michael Brehl CSsR, Superior General of the Redemptorists made a three minute intervention at the Synod on the Family during the morning session of Tuesday 6th October.

Fr. Brehl spoke about the family and the principle of inclusion that is to be found in the Instrumentum Laboris, as well as in Gaudium et Spes and other papal documents.

“Even when members of our family face difficult or challenging situations, they are still part of the family and must not be considered as ‘outsiders’”, said Fr Brehl CSsR.

During the audience with Pope Francis on Wednesday 30 September the Superior General of the Redemptorists Fr Michael Brehl CSsR got the opportunity to meet with Pope Francis. Fr Brehl presented Pope Francis with a copy of the original icon of Our Mother of Perpetual Succour (Help) which was written by Polish Redemptorist Fr Eugenio Karpiel CSsR. The gift was given to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Blessed Pope Pius IX presenting the icon to the Redemptorists with the mandate
"Make her known to the world".

The Perpetual Novena to OLPS at Home

olps mission

header50goldback1

For the past 150 years Redemptorists have been promoting devotion to Our Mother of Perpetual Succour. The beautiful Icon of Our Mother of Perpetual Succour quickly became the best known Icon of Our Lady in the history of the Church.

For many years this devotion was fostered through the weekly celebration of the Novena in thousands of parishes. But in recent decades fewer and fewer parish churches hold Novena Services.

But the need for this powerful devotion remains urgent. Our families need her Perpetual Help. Parents and grandparents experience an intense desire to pray for their children and grandchildren and they are looking for new ways in which they can support one another.

That is why we are now promoting a new form of this much loved devotion. We call it The Perpetual Novena at Home. Through this Novena you will be able to unite your prayers with the prayers of people all over the world. This form of the Novena is particularly suited to those who are ill, have transport issues or do not live near a church were the Novena is held.

OLPS, the Rosary and the Redemptorists...

Reflecting on the Icon of Our Mother of Perpetual Help through the prayerful meditation of the Holy Rosary is a wonderful way to celebrate the 150th Jubilee Yearof the Icon given to the Redemptorists by Pope Pius IX to 'Make Her know to the world.'

May this prayerful journey bring us ever closer to the love and protection of our Mother.

From the Letters of Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos, priest

(Archives of the Baltimore Province)

Place nothing ahead of God's love

This desire to bring a sacrifice to God again and again extends to everything that I ever

loved in this life, and upon which my heart was set.

When I think of the beauties of nature, these do not stir up longing and melancholy, but

I am filled with the greatest joy, because, since I am not giving God any real and true

gifts, I can give him imagined and pretended ones. At the same time, in the overflowing

of my good fortune, I cannot at all get away from the thought that in heaven God will

give me those that, for him, I have forsaken in the world, and for this I also constantly

pray.

Homily - Fr. James Corrigan CSsR Funeral...

FUNERAL OF FR JAMES CORRIGAN, CSsR

BISHOP ETON, THURSDAY 24 SEPTEMBER 2015 at NOON

HOMILY BY FR. TIM BUCKLEY C.SS.R

FrCorriganfuneral 1

I have not had far to look for the connections which so fascinate me when I came to prepare these few words to honour the memory of Fr Jim Corrigan as we lovingly entrust him to the Lord today. Just three weeks ago to this very day, Fr Andrew, Fr Barrie and I went to Christopher Grange, complete with a cake, to celebrate Fr Jim’s 88th Birthday. I don’t think we were responsible, but that night he was in the Royal Liverpool Hospital, only to be discharged at lunchtime the following day. Sadly these breathless turns were becoming a pattern and a few days later he landed in Whiston Hospital. They kept him in for a few days, and it seemed that both he and the Lord had decided that enough was enough, so on cue on the night of the 62nd anniversary of his ordination he went peacefully to the Lord: it was the feast of Our Lady of Sorrows and today is the Feast of Our Lady of Walsingham. He would appreciate the connections: he had a great devotion to our Blessed Lady.
