Still no news of Redemptorists captured by Russians in Ukraine...

Fr Ivan Levytsky CSsR and Fr Bohdan Heleta CSsR

Captured by Russian troops almost eight months ago, Redemptorist religious priests Ivan Levytsky and Bohdan Heleta from the port city of Berdyansk in southeastern Ukraine show no sign of life. During a visit to the headquarters of the Pontifical Foundation Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) in Königstein im Taunus, the Auxiliary Bishop of the Greek Catholic Exarchate of Donetsk, Maksym Rjabucha declared: “Despite prayers, protests and efforts on the part of the Catholic Church, there is still no news of the two”.

In November 2022, priests Ivan Levytsky and Bohdan Heleta decided to stay with their faithful in the temporarily occupied territories. They were eventually arrested by the Russians, accused of planning a “terrorist act”. Since then, they have been held in an unknown location.

The Greek Catholic Church said it had information that these priests were being tortured. One of them has diabetes.

Miss Karen Pluckrose retires from the Headteacher's job...

miss k pluckrose and bishop ralph cssr

Miss Karen Pluckrose,

(pictured above with Bishop Ralph Heskett CSsR, the Bishop of Hallam, Fr Casper Simba Mukabva CSsR, the Parish Priest and Fr Peter Morris CSsR, curate)

has decided to call it a day after many years as a teacher and even more as a Head Teacher in St Mary's Primary School, Clapham, London. The CSsR community has had a very close relationship with Karen over her years as the Head Teacher.

Bishop Ralph CSsR, then Fr Ralph CSsR was on the board that appointed her as Head, many years ago. It was therefore fitting that he should return to Clapham and celebrate one final mass of thanksgiving with Miss Pluckrose.

We most certainly are going to miss Miss Pluckrose and we wish her every success in whatever ministry she might now turn her hand!

Congratulations!

THE COMMITMENT OF OUR REDEMPTORIST LAY MISSIONARIES...

stemma7cssr

I am regularly speaking of the special occasions which we have in our two parishes and this weekend we have a uniquely special occasion: the commitment of four of our Redemptorist Lay Associates who are dedicating themselves to be Redemptorist Lay Missionaries as well. This will take place at a ceremony during the 10am Mass this Sunday. As a member of the Provincial Council, I feel honoured to be able to receive their commitment. I do know each of them and indeed, their commitment is really just confirmation of what they have already been living.

Frances Sibert, a parishioner of Bishop Eton, has become more involved in the life of both parishes and as you know has not only supported our Zimbabwean Mission with fundraising, but has been to Zimbabwe and worked with our confrères there on a number of occasions.

Nicole Barber is from Kent and got to know the Redemptorists when our students gained pastoral experience in her parish of Orpington back in the 1990s. I had the joy of working with her on a Mission at St Bede’s College, Manchester, back in March 2001: also with me were Ralph Heskett, Paul Douthwaite and Linda Longstaff from Sunderland. Nicole has worked with many Redemptorists on all sorts of ventures and is now Assistant Director of Redemptorist Publications.

For years Marie Hogg has worked with Redemptorists, most notably alongside Fr Jim McManus. They have shared in the presentation of retreats and courses as well as co-operating in writing many books.

Elisabeth Neefs will be well known to many of you during her years living in Bishop Eton parish, where Greg, her husband became our Deacon. Although the family has now moved to Hungary, we are deeply moved by the way Elisabeth has been captivated by our Redemptorist spirituality and it is heartening to reflect that she will be seeking missionary opportunities to share this same spirit with others in Hungary.

Feast Day of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour 27th June...

olps ossr

A very happy feast day to you all

as we celebrate the wonderful feast of

Our Lady of Perpetual Succour

27th June.

The Redemptorist Family,

- Fathers, Brothers, Nuns, Sisters, Lay Associates,

Parishioners, Benefactors & our families and friends -

celebrate OLPS each year by making

the Novena "Nine Days Prayer" in her honour.

The Icon photographed here for this article is the icon that hung in

the Monastery Chapel of our Redemptoristine Nuns OSsR

when they lived in Chudleigh, Devon, and then in Gillmoss, Liverpool.

For over a hundred years there it was in their midst

and they had a great devotion to Our Lady of Perpetual Succour.

Shortly before her death,

Sr Mary Bernadette OSsR RIP

handed this icon over to the Redemptorists.

Today it hangs proudly in Clapham SW4.

Our Lady of Perpetual Succour - Pray for us!
