DESCRIPTION

A new limited edition solid hardwood icon of Saint Joseph.

Works by Brother Richard Maidwell, C.Ss.R.

Br Richard Maidwell was born and brought up in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) and proudly regards himself as Anglo-African. He became a Redemptorist brother at his first profession in 1984. From the age of 14 he became interested in the study and history of icons; at the same age he began writing his own. His break came in 1989 when the Provincial Council sent Br Richard on a course to the Apostolate of Eastern Churches in the Netherlands, where he studied iconography and Byzantine liturgy for two years. Following that time until the present, Br Richard has worked on private commissions from various countries and produced a wide collection of icons.

Preaching to the Major Superiors...

At another mass in the community oratory in Rome, Fr Kenneth T Macharaga CSsR, the Regional Superior in Zimbabwe, was given the honour of being the preacher to the English speaking Major Superiors.

His words were powerful and inspiring!

General Government meets English speaking Major Superiors...

About 30 Major Superior of our Congregation have been participating in a one-week formation meeting organized by General Government in Rome. It started last Monday, March 6, with the Eucharist in the Shrine of Our Mother of Perpetual Help and has continued through the next four days, when the participants were presented with several topics connected with their leadership ministry for their Units and collaboration with the General Government.

Fr. General Rogerio Gomes and the General Consultors presented a vision for the next sexennium and various issues relevant to their responsibility and were available for discussion and individual conversation. The participants learned about the General Secretariats and other central institutions of our Congregation. They were introduced to administrative issues, canonical procedures, safeguarding, and financial administration and discussed current problems and challenges of the leadership. At the end of the meeting, the Major Superiors were presented the Final Document of the 26th General Chapter.

One of the great buzzwords of the church today is Synodality. Over the last couple of years in parishes and dioceses, nationally and internationally, we have been talking about Synodality.

We are preparing for a great meeting of bishops in Rome over the next couple of years on the subject of Synodality, so what is it? Synodality is a way of describing how we, as disciples of Jesus, walk the road together.

In today’s gospel, we hear about two disciples, walking the road together – they were walking the road away from Jerusalem, sharing their disappointment. They had been walking together with Jesus for three years in the hope that he would be the promised Messiah – but now Jesus was dead and buried, and they were going home – until Jesus himself walked at their side and gradually changed their disappointment into a new hope – a new vision – a new mission. Their hearts burned as he explained the Scriptures to them and they recognised him at the breaking of bread.
