Remember Me...

Lyrics
In the night in which our Savior was betrayed
He broke the bread and to His friends He said:
"Take and eat, this is my body given for you
Take and drink, this blood of mine is shed for you
Do this always to remember me
Remember me."

In the night in which our Savior was denied
He bowed His Head and to the Father cried:
"If it be Your will let this cup pass from me
If it be your will, spare me this agony
In my darkest hour will you remember me?
Remember me."

In the night in which my deepest doubt are known
You come to me and I am not alone
When I taste your blood and body given for me
When I hear your prayer in dark Gethsemane
Then I know you will remember me

Remember me.
O Lord, remember me.
Remember me.

Accademia Alfonsiana is recognised as Institutum ad instar facultatis...

Introduction

On 25 March 1957 (64 years!), the Congregation of Religious recognised the Alphonsian Academy as an “internal school of moral theology” (constituit tamquam Scholam internam publicam) under the care of the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer. Until today, the Accademia has been gaining its autonomy until the last recognition, thanks to the Apostolic Constitution Veritatis gaudium (VG), on 18 December 2020, to be recognised by Catholic Education as Institutum ad instar facultatis.

Recalling a bit of history, the Alphonsian Academy, Higher Institute of Moral Theology, was founded by the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer as a school of moral theology on 9 February 1949. The Congregation of Religious recognises it as an internal public school of moral theology, entrusted to the C.Ss.R and opened to the secular clergy and religious on 25 March 1957; on 2 August 1960, the Congregation for Seminaries and Universities, with the approval of Pope John XXIII, incorporated the AA into the theological faculty of the Pontifical Lateran University, after having legally approved its Statutes, as a Higher Institute of Moral Theology, with its own autonomy; on 22 October 1969, the Sacred Congregation for Catholic Education approved the programme proposed by the AA in the application of the Normae quaedam (20 May 1968): Specialised Licentiate (2nd cycle) and Doctorate (3rd cycle) in Moral Theology.

Based on the decree of the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life, no. 1960/57 of 25 March 1957, work began on 13 April 2018 for civil recognition, a requirement before the Italian state. On 19 April 2018, the application for recognition was submitted to the Congregation for Religious. On 26 September 2018, the Congregation for Catholic Education, in response to Prot. N. 63488/18 of 26 September 2018, gave its consent for the Higher Institute of Moral Theology “Accademia Alfonsiana”, incorporated into the Lateran University, to be erected by the competent authorities a civilly recognised ecclesiastical body.

75th Anniversary of our CSsR Greek Catholic confreres in Slovakia...

(Michalovce, Slovakia) Today, March 23, 2021, the Greek Catholic Redemptorists of the Vice-Province of Michalovce commemorate the 75th anniversary of their canonical foundation. The Vice-Province of Michalovce was already established on December 21, 1945, by Superior General, Very Rev. Patrick Murray, C.Ss.R., in Rome and promulgated in Michalovce on March 23, 1946. The first appointed vice-provincial was Fr. Dominik Metod Trčka C.Ss.R.

The Redemptorists of both rites came to Slovakia 100 years ago and founded their first monastery in Stropkov in the Autumn of 1921. They began to do popular missions all over Slovakia, not only in the eparchy of Presov but also in the eparchies of Mukachevo and Križevacka. They also devoted themselves to spiritual exercises, unionism, spreading devotion for the Mother of Perpetual Help, establishing various communities, publishing the “The Missionary” magazine and other publications. In 1931, the construction of the first Greek Catholic Redemptorist monastery in Michalovce was completed, and this monastery later became the seat of the new vice-province. At the time of its foundation, the Michalovce Vice-Province was part of the Prague Province and had three monasteries in Michalovce, Stropkov, and Sabinov. It consisted of 14 priests, 11 religious brothers and 3 students of theology, and many candidates to the priesthood (students of the so-called “Juvenate”).

Pope Francis: St. Alphonsus is a model for the Church going forth in mission

Dear Confreres, Sisters, Lay Associates and friends,

Today, the Redemptorist Family and the Alphonsian Academy celebrates with the whole Church as we honour the 150th anniversary of the proclamation of St. Alphonsus as Doctor of the Church.

In recognition of this important anniversary, Pope Francis has written a message to us in which he proposes St. Alphonsus, as a “model for the whole Church going forth in mission”.  The Holy Father invites us, “like St. Alphonsus, to go forth to encounter as brothers and sisters the most fragile members of our society. This involves the development of moral theological reflection and pastoral action which is capable of commitment to the common good rooted in the proclamation of the kerygma, and which offers a decisive word in defense of life, for creation and fraternity.”

On this anniversary, Pope Francis encourages the “Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer and the Pontifical Alphonsian Academy … to enter into constructive dialogue with situations coming from all cultures to seek an apostolic, moral and spiritual response in favour of human fragility, knowing that dialogue is martyria.”

To celebrate this 150th Anniversary is not only an opportunity to celebrate the contribution of St. Alphonsus Maria de’ Liguori, but above all, in the Spirit of St. Alphonsus, to engage the future with hope and the joy of the Gospel.

May St. Alphonsus continue to inspire and accompany us as we follow the Redeemer!

In Christ our Redeemer,

Michael Brehl, C.Ss.R.
